Our Story
Sandesh is a registered non-profit organization established on May 30th, 2008, for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. "Sandesh" means Message — and our message is one of Dreams do come true. Sandesh began as a dream, years in the making — built on the mission of creating a beautiful community that becomes a ripple of joy for all who are part of it, while empowering its members to live dignified lives.
Taking a leap of faith, Jenny shared her vision with her husband Seby and close friends Anil and Nupur. Together, they gave the dream greater energy. Progress was slow at first; building the right support took time — extensive talking, learning, research, and outreach to people and other NGOs in the same sector, all before the real work could begin.
Kavita and Sandeep Singhal stepped forward as our first supporters, and have continued walking this journey with us. Without them, we would not be where we are today.
What started as an idea for a residential home evolved into a day care facility when we learned that many families were locking their children with special needs at home while going to work — the only option they had to keep them safe. Many had been rejected from other homes and special schools due to financial hardship or severe disability. Sandesh became a ray of hope. We opened our doors to all who needed care and support to grow to their potential — with respect.
We actively began our work in 2010, and since then have reached out to 1,000+ families, each of whom has received hope and courage to face life with dignity and a smile.
Inspired by L'Arche communities, we believe each individual is here for a reason — not by mistake and has the right to live to their fullest potential. Our community is founded on simplicity and humility. Our culture of celebrating all religions, festivals, and traditions has drawn staff and volunteers from India and abroad, blessing us with friends and well-wishers around the world.
Over the years, we have relocated our centres many times due to infrastructure challenges, painful moves that brought instability for our members, and sadly, caused some to leave. Yet with every tiny step forward, there has been no going back.
